Tattoo location, ink amount, scarring, and pigment layering all affect treatment estimates. The response observed over time is therefore more useful than a color-based prediction made before treatment.

Why a Test Spot May Come Before Full Treatment

More fading is not automatically better if the skin is not ready for it. Laser tattoo removal can involve pigmentary changes such as hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation. Other possible adverse effects include burning, blistering, scarring, and skin-texture change.

Before pursuing another treatment, consider:

  • Is the skin fully recovered from previous work?
  • Is there visible scarring, altered texture, or an uneven healing pattern?
  • Has the tattoo or PMU changed color in an unexpected way?
  • Is the client prepared to protect the area from sun exposure before and after treatment because of dyspigmentation risk?
  • Would additional fading improve the planned rework outcome enough to justify continued treatment?

For PMU artists, skin quality should be part of the design decision. A lighter area is not necessarily ready for correction if its texture, tone, or recovery remains unstable.
